Welcome to Fall 2011!

It was wonderful to see some new faces and some of you that I haven’t seen in a few months at our recent clinic! I have updated the shoes and the gloves page so you all know what to order for the season. You will want to order soon, so you can break everything in before band camp. Here are the things you can work on between now and when I see you again on May 19.

DANCE
plie and tendu in first and second positions, both parallel and turned-out
the new coupé / passé exercise
jazz walks
jazz walks with coupe hops
the dance combination!

FLAG
drop spins on left and right
the angle exercise on left and right (go for precision!)
pull-hits – i would love to get through one set on the right slowly on the 19th
the combination!

RIFLE
spins: 6 on bottom, 6 on top, 6 on bottom, 6 counts with a single – repeat – shoot for 3 sets of this
wrist rolls – 16 forward, 16 back
tosses – the priority is good technique!!! singles and doubles for everyone, tripples for Hannah, Jessie, Gigi, Diarra, and anyone else who has mastered doubles

SABRE
spins – shoot for 50 on each side
flourish exercise (8 count spin into hilt catch….)
blade tosses – singles and doubles
hilt tosses – the priority is good technique!!! singles and doubles for everyone, tripples for Hannah, Jessie, Katie, and anyone else who has mastered doubles

Happy practicing and I can’t wait to see all your improvements on the 19th!

Congrats on the end of the season!

I wanted to congratulate you all on a wonderful season, and a fantastic final performance! I am so glad that you all had the opportunity to attend circuit championships this year, and I know you all had a wonderful time!

Right now, I have our end-of-the-season dinner scheduled for Tuesday, April 12 at 7:00pm at the Red Robin near New Hope Commons. Please let me know how many people are coming with you so I can give them an estimate when I call ahead.

Thank you all, and I look forward to seeing many of you again in the fall and the rest of you performing in other guards next winter!

More on AIA

Ok – so they just posted a little more info on this coming weekend. I have been told that your wristbands from prelims will get you into any event during the weekend (prelims and finals). However, both participant and volunteer (parent) wristbands will only allow you to sit on the back bleachers. You can upgrade to sit on the front for $5.

You can pre-order AIA championships t-shirts (short and long sleeved). They are cheaper if you pre-order them and they also often run out of sizes quickly at the event (if your parents want one, they should order ahead of time as well). They will give them to us at check-in.
pre-order t-shirts here!

Please let me know if you have any other questions about AIA, and I will look forward to seeing you all at Creekside on Tuesday evening!

Thursday Rehearsal

Last minute change to rehearsal today!
We will NOT be at Creekside this evening. We will instead be in the bandroom from 3:00-5:30pm.
Sorry for the late notice; I just got notice too!
See you then!

Rehearsal on Tuesday March 22

Because almost all of you will be gone until later in the evening on March 22, I think it best that we not have rehearsal that night. We would only have time to get in one, maybe two runs of the show at best, and wouldn’t be able to work on anything else.

Please work on consistency on all equipment (and especially rifle). We will resume regular rehearsal on Thursday.

Also make sure you look over the schedule for AIA Championships.
